College is Expensive
I live in a college town. We have one major university in the city, and two smaller schools nearby. You can see a noticeable difference in the stores when the students return for a new year. When I see the parents pushing carts full of supplies behind their new college students I think about just how expensive college is. Even if you live simply, you still need a lot of things to live out on your own for the first time, and to get through your classes.
Amazon Prime for College Students
When I made a comment on Facebook about the number of students I saw in the stores, a friend said that he thought college should come with a subscription to Amazon Prime. As someone who loves her Prime membership I totally agree. College may not come with a membership, but Amazon does offer a free trial for college students. A student membership comes with free 2-day shipping on any size order, and you can borrow free books on your Kindle. As an English major I used this feature a lot to save money on some of the literature I had to read. Any savings on books is a good thing! There are also special discounts that are offered just to students throughout the year.
What if I’m not a student?
I took advantage of the student membership when I was still in college, and I loved it so much that I’ve been a Prime member ever since. I love being able to borrow books for free, and the two day shipping is so convenient. I have really tried to limit the amount of new things that come into my home, and as I’ve mentioned before I am transitioning to reading on my Kindle instead of purchasing paper books. When I do make purchases, I like to save as much money as I can, and Prime let’s me do that. My kids love the free music, and we all enjoy the free movies and TV shows. It really pays for itself over the course of a year.
